Drivers License Offices Close Due To Coronavirus
One thing that catches a lot of drivers with extra charges after a crash is an expired driver’s license. But now, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, things are a little weird right now. CBSDFW reports.
The governor announced last week that all the drivers license offices across the state closed in the outbreak’s wake. The only people allowed to take tests now are those who need their first CDL license. This will allow commercial drivers to keep supply lines open.
Those seeking a CDL will need to email cdlappointments@dps.texas.gov to schedule.
What if you need your license renewed? Good news. The governor has also suspended parts of the transportation code to delay expiration dates for drivers licences, existing CDLs, and other identification documents. However, it is recommended to check the DPS website to see if you can renew online. This will keep you up to date, and you can avoid the rush when this suspension lifts.
“Our commercial drivers are essential to the consistent flow of goods throughout the state, and we will continue to ensure those seeking an initial CDL can do so,” said Governor Abbott. “Closing driver license offices to those not seeking an initial CDL is another step the state is taking to encourage social distancing in our communities.”
