A Truck Went Up In Flames After Hitting A Natural Gas Meter
The driver of a pickup truck had the horrifying experience of his vehicle bursting into flames. The driver hit a natural gas meter in Lewisville last week which caused a nerve-wracking disturbance in the community and property damage to a local business.
According to the story appearing on the website of CBS’s local station in Dallas, the accident happened early in the morning at approximately 7:30 A.M. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 35E on the service road located near Valley Ridge Boulevard.
Investigators say that the man lost control of his vehicle and hit the meter. The impact of the off-the-road crash into the meter caused an underground pipe to break off. As a result, his pickup truck caught fire.
Though the accident itself was dangerous, the driver of the pickup truck was reportedly, and fortunately, uninjured in the crash.
Flames from the gas line continued to shoot up into the air for at least an hour after the incident. After the gas company was contacted and notified of the accident, it was able to shut off the line approximately an hour later.
The accident happened near the front of the Five Star Ford dealership. The fire was so massive, that two of the vehicles on the car dealer’s lot also suffered heat damage due to their proximity to the fire.
A crew from Atmos Energy extinguished the fire sealed off the broken line for repairs.
The accident is still currently under investigation. So far, no charges have been filed in connection to the case.
