Intoxication Manslaughter Charges Filed In Crash That Killed 5-Year-Old
Police have captured a suspect believed to be responsible for a DUI crash that killed a 5-year-old child in Houston. He’s been charged with intoxication manslaughter. CBS in Dallas reports.
A father and his child were driving southbound on Fountain View Drive and crossed the intersection of the Southwest Freeway service road. He had the light, but the suspect’s car went through the red light and crashed into his vehicle hard enough to roll it over. The father suffered minor injuries, but the child was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead soon afterward.
Witnesses at the crash scene saw the responsible driver try to run off, but they stopped him until he could be arrested by the police. According to the police report, the driver had signs of intoxication.
Our condolences go out to the family of the dead child and we hope the father makes a full recovery.
Crashes like this are why the police have such heavy penalties for DUI. Intoxication during a crash also makes it harder for you to get compensation if you’re injured. On the flip side, if you are hurt by a drunk driver you might be able to make a better case.
